Women empowerment has always been an important issue to me, though it definitely came more to light my freshman year. In my Integrated Business and Engineering Honors Program cohort, there was about 30% female and 70% male and I even remember one of the TAs saying that this was the most girls he had ever seen in an IBE cohort so far. It made me realize how much of an issue this still was and cemented my desire to enable women to feel confident in pursuing a career in Finance and Technology. Women’s empowerment in finance became a larger issue for me when I was beginning the internship search process. There was a prestigious faculty-led preparation program for investment banking and I knew getting in would be the best way to learn about the industry. I was elated when I was accepted but quickly realized I was the only woman in the cohort of 25 men. I will never forget how close I was to throwing away my acceptance simply because I knew I would be different than the rest of the cohort. That is when I realized how critical it was for me to become an advocate for not only women’s empowerment but minority empowerment in the finance industry. During my undergraduate career, I was President of the club Rutgers Undergraduate Women in Business, where we hosted many events to empower women in business. I met many professionals through this experience and connected with many women in finance who shared candid stories and experiences they faced as women in finance. Women empowerment in finance is important to me because women bring such a valuable and well-rounded perspective to the table in the investing world. However, there aren't enough of us that are staying the course and making it to senior levels within the industry.
